With a corporate management and marketing history spanning more than thirty years, for listed and private companies, David operates primarily in the tourism, resource and affordable housing sectors, specialising in innovative concepts for tourist, resource and retirement accommodation projects.
As Manager, Development and Marketing for a publicly listed Australian company, he was responsible for ground-breaking accommodation projects that established it as a market leader in holiday accommodation and lifestyle developments.
Now operating as Principal of Brighthouse, David is a successful consultant, urban designer, project manager and developer. He is deeply embroiled in the development of alternative housing for resource and infrastructure projects. With a broad knowledge of tourism operations, David provides strategic advice, feasibility and business case studies for projects of all sizes.
As a former operator of holiday parks in Western Australia, he understands the industry well and now provides operational advice to clients on product mix, pricing, budgets, human resources, marketing and training. David has a Diploma of Caravan Park Management.
A registered builder and an acknowledged professional in relocatable accommodation developments, David also provides consultancy services to federal, state and local government and the private sector. He has a project management role with a select number of projects, attained a Diploma of Project Management and is a member of the Australian Institute of Project Management.
David facilitates worker's camps for infrastructure, construction and mining projects for government and resource project operators. Undertaking a variety of project roles he has provided bankable feasibility and business case studies, camp design and forward works engineering, tender documentation, risk management, performance measurement, selection criteria and analysis, project management and contract administration for numerous projects.
Through Brighthouse, David has worked on many diverse projects outside the accommodation sector, including the Monkey Mia Jetty redevelopment and the Shark Bay Sports, Community, Recreation and Emergency Evacuation Centre, which resulted in successful applications for Royalty for Regions grant funding.
David developed a concept for the legacy tourist use of temporary key worker accommodation facilities, which was adopted for the Ord Irrigation Expansion project in Kununurra. He is currently working with the Shire of Esperance to create a sustainable community legacy use for the temporary accommodation facility required for the major infrastructure project developments under development in the town.
Dedicated to the continuing development of tourism in Western Australia, David is a former Chairman of the Peel Region Tourism Association where he instigated the first tourism reservation and payments portal in Western Australia, Peeltour. David is a former Chair of Judges for the Western Australian Tourism Awards and a Past President of Caravan Industry Australia (WA).
David and his Brighthouse consultancy was commissioned by Tourism WA in 2012 to undertake a major audit of caravanning and camping infrastructure in Western Australia and provide a Strategy for Caravan and Camping in Western Australia, as a framework for strategic planning for the sector during the next decade and beyond.
He has maintained his strong interest in education and training through his appointment to the Governing Council of Challenger Institute of Technology and currently chairs the Governing Council's Planning & Development Sub-committee and the Quinlans Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre’s advisory committee, helping develop successful programs for Challenger Institute of Technology to place trainees in the workplace.
David maintains his professional development through enrollment on training courses, such as the recent 3 day workshop conducted by Performance Measurement Specialist, Stacey Barr, and attendance of seminars and conferences.
David has a keen interest in indigenous projects including indigenous tourism projects, housing and business incubation. He has worked on projects for Indigenous Business Australia in collaboration with associate consultants, Claire and Adrian Prendergast.
