Caravanning and camping is an important part of Western Australia’s tourism industry. Every year over 800,000 local, interstate and international visitors travel throughout the State staying in caravan parks and camping grounds. Caravan parks provide a range of accommodation types and other services to cater for the needs of a wide cross section of the population.
The 2009 Parliamentary Inquiry into the provision, use and regulation of Caravan Parks (and Camping Grounds) in Western Australia identified a number of key tourism specific areas. Tourism WA is in the process of establishing the Western Australian Caravan and Camping Action Plan 2012-2017 to address the tourism related issues surrounding infrastructure needs, marketing, training, and the policy and regulatory framework by which the caravan and camping industry is governed.
In developing the action plan, Tourism WA has considered the findings from the Brighthouse Report: A Strategic Approach to Caravanning and Camping Tourism in WA (June 2012). This report undertook a comprehensive assessment of the current and future needs of the caravanning and camping sector in Western Australia.
